Transit and approach

The Houston Metro and its METRORail system operate various routes near and around NRG Park, serving as viable transportation options for events. METRORail guests should exit at the Stadium Park / Astrodome station on the Red Line and enter Gate 2 at the NRG Park stop off Fannin. METRO also offers 100% accessibility and provides paratransit via METROLift for guests with disabilities.

Rideshare and parking

Rideshare: Rideshare services have designated pick-up and drop-off locations at Gate #2, located at the intersection of Fannin and McNee, or in Yellow Lot 35, entering Gate 16B off Main St..

Parking: All parking at NRG Stadium requires a pre-purchased parking pass, and it is recommended to purchase in advance. Parking transactions are cashless. Accessible parking spaces are available for guests with disabilities in all NRG lots with a valid state-issued placard or license plate and a pre-paid parking pass. Accessible drop-off and pick-up points are designated at the southeast (Amegy Bank Gate) and northeast (BHP Billiton Gate) corners of NRG Stadium. Arriving early is recommended to beat traffic and secure a good spot, especially for tailgating.

After the event

For post-game late-night options, Chacho's is a 24/7 Tex-Mex restaurant known for frozen margaritas and burritos. Clutch City Cluckers, a food truck specializing in fried chicken sandwiches, is open late (until 5 am on weekends and 3 am on weekdays). El Taconazo is another vibrant food truck offering authentic late-night tacos, open past 2 a.m. on weekends.

The game-day experience

  • Atmosphere area: NRG Stadium is part of the NRG Park complex, located in the southwest part of Houston on Kirby Drive at the South Loop West Freeway (I-610). The complex encompasses 350 acres and includes NRG Center, NRG Arena, and NRG Astrodome.
  • Tailgating: Tailgating is allowed in all NRG Park parking lots for Houston Texans football games and other college football games, or at the discretion of management. Parking lots generally open 4 hours prior to kickoff for Texans games, with the Platinum Lot opening 5 hours prior. Tailgating is limited to one 8'x16' parking spot for each valid parking pass and must not extend beyond the blue lines marked in the drive lane. Open flames are permitted, but barbecue pits left unattended must be extinguished, and lighter fluid is strictly prohibited. Saving of parking spots is not permitted, and fans wishing to tailgate together must arrive together. Generators are allowed, but fuel must be stored in UL-approved metal safety cans. Tailgating can continue up to one hour after the game, but guests may be asked to clear lots earlier in some instances.
  • Signature food: NRG Stadium features a wide variety of food options, including Tex-Mex favorites like tacos, nachos, and quesadillas, and Texas-style BBQ such as brisket, ribs, and pulled pork sandwiches. Other notable options include STUFF'd Wings (offering seafood boudin and chicken boudin or dirty rice-filled wings), Mediterranean dishes from Craft Pita, and Trill Burgers.
  • Fan tradition: Tailgating is a significant local fan tradition at NRG Stadium, with fans encouraged to arrive early and participate in pre-game festivities in the parking lots. The BULLevard offers pre-game activities, music, food, and giveaways.
