Frequently Asked Questions

What Is a SportCation?

A SportCation is a vacation built around multiple live sporting events in one destination.

Instead of planning a trip around a single game, a SportCation focuses on attending two or more professional games in the same city over one weekend or short stay. The goal is to maximize the experience — more games, smarter logistics, and better use of your travel time.

Does SportCation sell tickets or travel directly?

No.

SportCation is a discovery and planning platform. We surface scheduling data and estimated pricing to help you plan smarter. When you choose to book, you'll be directed to trusted third-party ticket and travel providers.

Are the prices shown guaranteed?

No.

Ticket prices, hotel rates, and travel costs shown on SportCation are estimates based on available listing data at the time of retrieval. Prices can fluctuate due to demand, timing, and availability.

We recommend confirming final pricing directly with the booking provider before completing any purchase.

How does SportCation calculate "overlap weekends"?

An overlap weekend occurs when two or more different major league home games in the same city take place between Friday afternoon and Sunday night, with enough time separation to realistically attend both.

We use structured scheduling logic — including minimum time buffers between games — to ensure suggested combinations are physically feasible.

What is the Sportcation Index?

The Sportcation Index is our annual 100-point data study ranking U.S. cities for multi-sport weekend travel.

Cities are evaluated across three categories:

  • Logistics (venue proximity, airport travel time, transit access)
  • Financials (ticket entry cost, sports-weekend hotel rate)
  • Opportunity density (number of qualifying overlap weekends)

The Index is designed to provide transparency and structure — not opinion-based rankings.

How often is the Sportcation Index updated?

The Index is published annually and frozen for the year of publication. This ensures consistent methodology and reproducible results.

Underlying schedule and pricing datasets may update periodically, but the published annual Index remains fixed for comparability.

Where does your event data come from?

Event schedule data is sourced from official event APIs and normalized for multi-sport analysis.

Venue coordinates and transit information are curated and periodically reviewed.

Pricing data reflects publicly listed ticket prices at time of retrieval and is standardized in U.S. Dollars for consistency.

Do you include all leagues?

SportCation currently focuses on major North American professional leagues, including:

  • NFL
  • NBA
  • MLB
  • NHL
  • MLS (where applicable)

Cities must have at least two major league teams to qualify for multi-sport analysis.

Why doesn't my city rank higher?

Rankings are based on measurable constraints such as:

  • Distance between venues
  • Travel time from airport
  • Number of feasible overlap weekends
  • Ticket and sports-weekend hotel costs

The Index does not factor in team popularity, recent performance, or subjective fan experience.

How do saved trips work?

Registered users can save custom trip combinations and generate shareable links to coordinate plans with friends or family.

Saved itineraries do not reserve tickets or lock in pricing.

How accurate are travel and hotel estimates?

Hotel estimates reflect the median nightly rate found within a walkable radius of each city's primary sports venue cluster, sampled on weekends featuring multiple live sporting events. This is a sports-trip friction metric, not a generic citywide hotel average.

These are planning references — not guaranteed rates. Actual prices will vary based on demand, timing, and availability.

Do you receive compensation from third-party partners?

SportCation may receive referral compensation from certain third-party booking providers. This does not affect the ranking methodology or scoring of cities.

All Index scoring is based strictly on defined data parameters.

Can I suggest improvements or corrections?

Yes. If you believe data for a venue, city, or travel estimate is outdated or inaccurate, please contact us. We review submissions and periodically update structured datasets.

Is SportCation available internationally?

SportCation primarily analyzes North American cities with major professional leagues. Financial metrics are standardized in USD for consistency.
